Info and support during the corona crisis

The corona crisis is raising concerns about the livelihoods of artists and a wide range of issues related to their individual professions. Information about the effects of the corona crisis on professionals in the fields of the arts and culture is available from many different sources. The Arts Promotion Centre Finland is keen to support artists and has collected information about the different forms of support that are available, as well as useful events, information related to specific fields of the arts and official guidelines. The producers of this information are responsible for the accuracy of this information and the languages in which it is provided (as specified before each link). We are continuously updating the page and invite tips concerning useful links that could be added.

1. Support and events

Taike's COVID-19 grants for private individuals. Application period 01.05.2020 - 15.05.2020. The intended recipients include, for example, musicians, actors, dancers, visual artists, designers, writers, set designers, sound and light technicians, editors, makeup artists, stage comedians and illustrators. These COVID-19 grants are intended for work situations that have changed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The support may be awarded for completing productions that had already been started before the crisis, for planning and implementing new projects, and for maintaining the professional activities of applicants. The amount of each COVID-19 grant is 3000 euros, and the grant must be used before 31 December 2020.

Music Finland is offering Support for Music Export in Exceptional Circumstances in order to sustain the international visibility and export of the Finnish music. The amount of support ranges from 500 to 6000 euros. The support is designed for ongoing export ventures aiming at the internationalisation of an artist, composer, singer-songwriter or product to ensure their continuity during the COVID-19 crisis, for example through digital implementations. Applications are being processed weekly on Fridays between 3 April and 8 May 2020.

Business Finland is helping companies during the coronavirus epidemic. The funding is intended for SMEs operating in Finland with 6-250 employees, as well as midcap companies whose business operations have suffered due to the corona crisis. Two types of funding are available, feasibility funding and development funding, and companies can apply for both types of funding simultaneously.

Local support

The City of Helsinki is offering quick grants to promote new kinds of activities, togetherness and remote work digitally or otherwise in the fields of the arts and culture, youth activities and sports. The total amount allocated for these quick grants is 300,000 euros, and the maximum amount per applicant is 5000 euros.  The aim of the quick grant is to quickly utilise new innovative and digital ways of participation for citizens. The application period is continuous, and applications will be prioritised.

Kerava’s cultural services department is awarding additional quick grants amounting to 10,000 euros in total in order to promote new innovations and finding new ways of realising cultural productions. The grants will be awarded in the form of production support for professional artists and artistic groups. The application period begins immediately and will continue until further notice. Applications will be processed approximately every two weeks. The first applications to be processed will be those that have been received by 24 April 2020.
