Digital environments

Are you a professional in experimental arts?: Come explore a digital native approach to time based media**! Apply to the virtual expedition by the end of July.

What would digitality, social media or online platforms mean to our careers, practises or the quality of our work if they were a natural habitat in our processes starting from the first draft of an idea?

What if we thought out of the digibox?

S.P.H.E.R.E. by Arts promotion centre Finland (Taike) and #digiteatteri*** is a multi artistic expedition that aims to broaden our conceptions of technology as a frame and starting point for making time and experience based art. #digiteatteri facilitates gentle and philosophical excursions to the possibilities of digitally native live art and Taike brings on perspectives by the regional artists of performance art, game art, literature and comic art.

The core of S.P.H.E.R.E. are guided excursions on various digital platforms, searching for the unknown and sharing views, ideas and knowledge with the group. The frame is intentionally loose and flexible so that we can pause, observe and dig deeper into anything interesting we may encounter on our trips. The participants can also develop their own ideas for digital artworks with the support of the group.

We meet online and only work remotely.

Who is this for?

You can apply to S.P.H.E.R.E. if you are a professional in the field of spatial, time, live, game or digital art: an artist, a curator, a code writer, a technician, a producer, a pedagogue, a journalist or other entity – an individual or a group.

* S.P.H.E.R.E. is an acronym from Superammattimainen performanssipainotteinen havaintolähtöinen empirismitaipuvainen retkikunta e-taiteeseen. (super-professional performance-based observational empirical expedition to e-arts.)

** Defined by Tate modern: “Refers to art that is dependent on technology and has a durational dimension”. (Editor’s note: such as for example film, video, performance art, new media art, interactive internet art, animation, sound art, conceptual art, experimental poetry, video games, happenings and installation art that incorporates video, digital, sound or other time based elements.)

*** #digiteatteri is a stage concept that reforms the ways that live art and performance are made and used. It’s a response to today’s digital reality and an attempt to find new encounters and definitions for art. For example #digiteatteri uses social media and artificial intellect in creating performances and it produces both independent art works as well as content linked to it’s own or it’s partners projects. https://www.digiteatteri.fi/
