Frequently asked questions about COVID-19 subsidies

Answers to questions regarding the latest call for applications for COVID-19 subsidies beginning on 4 February.

Who can apply for COVID-19 subsidies? 

COVID-19 subsidies are intended for private traders and sole proprietors in the art, culture and creative sectors whose work and livelihoods have been reduced or ceased altogether due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These subsidies may also be awarded to technical or production entrepreneurs within the creative industries. These subsidies may be awarded to any form of company: private traders, limited liability companies, limited partnerships or cooperatives.

Private traders may also have paid staff. 

Sole proprietors (regardless of company form) are economic operators who do not have paid staff at the time of application.

Applicants must have a valid Business ID, and the private trader or company applying for the subsidy must have been operating for at least one year before submitting the application.

How do I apply for a COVID-19 subsidy?

Start by reading carefully the call for applications before filling in an application.

Please note that on the last page of the application form, you should check the section “Annan suostumukseni hakemusta koskevien päätösten sähköiseen tiedoksiantoon” (I give my consent to the electronic notification of decisions concerning my application). The application cannot be submitted online otherwise.

COVID-19 subsidies can be applied for using Taike’s online services.

How much is each COVID-19 subsidy?

The amount of each subsidy is 6000 euros. The support may be used to cover costs generated in 2022. The support must be used by 31 December 2022. Subsidies awarded to private traders and sole proprietors are taxable income.

Can I apply for a COVID-19 subsidy if I have received a positive decision during a previous call for applications? 

Yes. When evaluating the need for support, Taike shall take into account any previous COVID-19 grants that have been received, any support that may have been awarded by other parties, the regional distribution of applicants, and the different artforms and sectors.

What kinds of costs can be covered by COVID-19 subsidies?  

These subsidies are intended to cover the costs of the entrepreneur’s own operations or for the resumption of operations during 2022 in a situation where normal operations have been disrupted or prevented altogether due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The subsidy may be used to cover operating expenses.

Ineligible expenses:

Depreciation

Fundraising costs

Business and investment costs

Reservations

Deferred items that are not based on actual realised expenses

Loan instalments

Interest on loans

Non-statutory supplementary pension contributions

Severance pay or non-compulsory pay for the period of notice

Performance-based bonuses

Legal costs or damages

Penalties, such as fines or interest on late payment

Can apply for both a COVID-19 subsidy as an entrepreneur and a Covid-19 grant as an artist? 

No. Submit just one application: either as a private person (COVID-19 grants for artists and professionals in the culture and creative sectors) or as an entrepreneur (COVID-19 subsidies for private traders and sole proprietors in the art, culture and creative sectors).

Which artform should I select?

Select the artform with which the project is primarily involved. If the application is not suitable for any single artform, select multidisciplinary art.

What kind of plan for using the support is required? 

You must include with your application a plan for how you intend to use the support. You will be asked about the intended use on the application form.

What attachments do I need to include with my application? 

Attach the previous year's financial statements to the application. This is not required for private traders unless stipulated in Section 1a and 4b of the Accounting Act. Attachments may not be sent by e-mail. Applications and attachments will not be returned. 

Can I amend my application after the deadline? 

No, applications may not be amended after the application period.

Frequently asked questions about the decision 

When will I be notified about the decision?  

You will receive notification of the decision by 30 April 2022 at the latest. The decision will be delivered to you via our online services. You will be informed by e-mail when the decision can be accessed from our online services. 

When will the subsidy be paid? 

The subsidy will be paid in May 2022.

Use of the subsidy

You will be required to submit written clarification of how the subsidy was used by 30 April 2023.
