State Prize for Circus Art to Mad in Finland
Finland’s first-ever State Prize for Circus has been awarded to the Mad in Finland group.
The Mad in Finland group comprises seven strong and brilliant circus professionals who have built their careers primarily within the European circus scene.
The group comprises Mirja Jauhiainen, Sanna Kopra, Stina Kopra, Heini Koskinen, Sanja Kosonen, Elice Abonce Muhonen and Lotta Paavilainen.
Entirely on their own initiative, the group has drawn on its members’ own experiences to create a fun and self-deprecating circus show entitled Mad in Finland. The macabre piece has been performed over fifty times around Europe to around 18,000 audience members.
The state prize was awarded by the National Council for the Performing Arts. The prize award ceremony hosted by Minister of Education and Culture Sanni Grahn-Laasonen took place on 25 November in Helsinki. The EUR 13,500 state prize is financed from lottery funds.
