Visual Arts

Finland is home to over 3000 active visual artists. Our task is to support the work of these artists and to make sure that their art is displayed publicly.

The National Council for Visual Arts supports, for example, galleries and other exhibition space maintained by artist groups and associations. The exhibitions held at these venues present topical and interesting art for members of the public to enjoy.

Admission to these art galleries is free of charge, and there is no purchase obligation. It is often possible to borrow works of art to decorate one's home. Private art galleries are not eligible for direct state support.

The majority of state grants and subsidies for the visual arts are allocated by the Ministry of Education and Culture. For example, most art museums receive statutory support from the ministry.
