New members appointed to Board for Grants and Subsidies to Writers and Translators

The Ministry of Education and Culture has appointed members to the Board for Grants and Subsidies to Writers and Translators for the 2024–2026 term. The new Chairperson is museum director Terhi Pietiläinen, who previously served as a member of the board. The new Deputy Chairperson is writer Joni Pyysalo.

The Board for Grants and Subsidies to Writers and Translators decides on the awarding of library grants to writers and translators of fiction and general non-fiction that can be applied for in January. The work of the board is based on legislation for the awarding of grants and subsidies to writers and translators (Act on Public Lending Right Compensation Grants and Subsidies, 236/1961).

Annual appropriations for these grants and subsidies amount to approximately EUR 2.8 million based on annual appropriations for general library procurements, as provided in the annual government budget. Grants are awarded in the form of working grants lasting 4 to 8 months. Approximately 250 of these grants are awarded annually.
