Several changes to Taike’s calls for applications this autumn
With the transition to the new system, Taike is updating its call for applications and at the same time clarifying the objectives and evaluation criteria for applications. Changes are also being made to the names of the types of funding available. General grants (previously operational subsidies) are intended to support the entire operations of the community. Project grants (previously special subsidies) are intended to support individual projects.
All calls for applications this autumn will be published at the end of September on the joint Applyforgrants.fi service for government grant authorities, where notices for calls for applications and application forms can be found. The website is trilingual, and all application-related information is now also available in English. Project grants for art professionals are also available for the first time on the Applyforgrants.fi service.
General grants for one or three years
Communities can apply for the following types of funding from Taike in autumn 2025:
- General grants for the arts
- General grants for culture
- General grants for festivals
- General grants for cultural magazines and online publications
General grants for the arts are intended for the long-term funding of professional art communities. The previous name of this form of support was operational subsidies for specific artforms.
General grants for culture are awarded to support operations that promote inclusion, cultural wellbeing and cultural diversity and combat racism. These grants combine two previous forms of support: subsidies for promoting inclusion and cultural wellbeing, and subsidies for promoting cultural diversity and combating racism.
General grants for festivals are awarded to professionally organised arts and culture events.
General grants for cultural magazines and online publications are awarded to publications that foster a diverse social discussion.
All general grants are available for a one-year or three-year period. Communities applying for a three-year general grant must have a three-year operating plan.
New grant for internationalisation projects
The following project grants can be applied for by communities in autumn 2025:
- Internationalisation grants for the arts
- Project grants for culture
- Project grants for “Percent for Art” projects
Internationalisation grants for the arts are a new form of support and corresponds to the focus on Taike’s international activities. These grants intended for art communities and are awarded to support the reciprocal development of international activities. The grant period is three years.
Project grants for culture are another new form of support. They are awarded to support projects aimed at developing a community’s operations, but they can also be awarded for projects in areas such as inclusion, children's and youth culture, cultural wellbeing and cultural diversity. These grants combine two previous forms of support: special subsidies for communities, and subsidies for children's and youth culture.
Following a one-year interruption, Taike is once again offering project grants for “Percent for Art” projects. These grants are intended for the direct costs of procuring works of art and development projects in connection with the “Percent for Art” principle.
Changes to calls for applications
Taike is clarifying the objectives and evaluation criteria on its calls for applications published on the Applyforgrants.fi service. The evaluation criteria are conditions that every applicant must meet. The evaluation criteria are used to review and compare applications. They are the basis for decision-making.
Applications are reviewed by Taike’s arts councils and expert panels, and decisions are based on a presentation by a special advisor. Decisions on general grants for the arts and culture will be made by mid-February, while decisions on other grants will be made by mid-March.
According to the budget framework announced in April, Taike predicts that appropriations for government grants will remain at the same level as in 2025. However, appropriations for specific forms of support will change somewhat. For individual applicants, government grant decisions are based on a new evaluation each time, while support for communities that have received funding in previous years may be reduced, increased or not awarded depending on the community’s operations, a comparison with the applications of other applicants, and the amount of available funding.
