Regional arts councils

The regional arts councils make decisions regarding the awarding grants and awards within their own area of responsibility.

Note: The Finnish Arts and Culture Agency’s peer review system is being restructured. The national and regional arts councils together with the Central Arts Council were discontinued as of 30 June 2026. The new structure comprises a Council of Arts and Culture utilising a Pool of Experts and rotating Grant Assessment Panels to review applications. Find out more on our website.

The regional arts councils make decisions regarding the awarding grants and awards for artists, artist groups and organisations within their own area of responsibility.

The Central Arts Council appoints the members of the regional arts councils for two-year terms based on the recommendations of regional experts in the fields of the arts and culture. Members of other state and regional arts councils, as well as outside experts, may also participate in the peer reviews of grant applications.
