State Prize for Media Art to Shinji Kanki

Experimental composer Shinji Kanki (born 1953) has had a long, versatile and multidisciplinary career in auditory art. He has lived and worked in Finland since 1985, and his diverse activities have ranged from experimental music and other auditory art to experimental radio broadcasting.

In 2014 Shinji Kanki organised and curated an exhibition of Finnish auditory art in Tokyo that attracted more than 14,000 visitors.

The State Prize for Media Art was awarded to Shinji Kanki by the National Council for Audiovisual Art. The prize award ceremony hosted by Minister of Education and Culture Sanni Grahn-Laasonen took place on 2 December in Helsinki. The EUR 13,500 state prize is financed from lottery funds.
