The Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) is an expert and service agency for promoting the arts under the Ministry of Education and Culture. Taike’s mission is to promote the arts on both the national and international levels, as well as to promote aspects of culture that are not covered by any other official body.

The Arts Promotion Centre Finland proposes four measures aimed at supporting the arts and artists during the 2023–2027 government term.

This paper presents an on-going research project on music policy in Finland. The main goals of the project are to evaluate Finnish music policy and to create methodological tools for the analysis of cultural policies in general.

”Meet Our Funding Recipients” is a series of articles that introduces you to artists, working groups and communities who have received funding from Taike. In these interviews, funding recipients discuss their art and the projects they have been able to implement with the support of funding.

This paper deals mainly with the technical aspects of defining the artist; and it is, at least to start with, committed to the practical interest of identifying artists as a professional group for empirical social science research.

In March 1994 CIRCLE (Cultural Information & Research Centres Liaison in Europe) Network organised an European Round Table on the Distribution of Roles and Changing Nature of Relations between Governments and Independent or Quasi-Independent Arts Councils or Foundations. As a preparation for the conference the participating countries were asked to describe the national situation through answering seven questions within a maximum of about 5-8 pages. This working paper presents the reply of Finland to the questionnaire.

The aim of this project has been to map out the number and background of Finnish artists, and especially their economic situation, and to evaluate the impact of the system of artists' support adopted at the end of the 60's.
