Finnish foundations and ministry provide millions in emergency aid for cultural sector in distress

A number of large Finnish foundations, the Ministry of Education and Culture, and Arts Promotion Centre Finland are working together to grant swift assistance to arts and culture professionals who have been hard hit by the coronavirus outbreak. Funding totalling approximately EUR 1.5 million will be apportioned during April via the Arts Promotion Centre (Taike). Foundations will also grant significant sums in aid through their own channels.

For the first time, WHO studies the link between arts and health

Engaging with the arts can be beneficial for both mental and physical health. This is a key conclusion of a new report from the WHO Regional Office for Europe analysing the evidence from over 900 global publications – the most comprehensive review of evidence on arts and health to date.

The Central Arts Council began its new term on Thursday 31 October. Convened under Chair Juha Itkonen, the council appointed Executive Director Rosa Meriläinen as its Deputy Chair.

Animation artist and illustrator Ami Lindholm wants her art to cheer people up and give them hope. Her observations of everyday life start with her own life, but in the process of drawing, the experiences become universal. The animated media work allows viewers to touch and to experience empathy.
