Accessibility statement for the taike.fi online service

We work continuously to ensure accessibility and are committed to making further improvements wherever possible.

This accessibility statement describes:

  • How the taike.fi online service complies with the Act on the Provision of Digital Services
  • Any deficiencies in the accessibility of the taike.fi online service
  • How you can give feedback regarding any shortcomings in accessibility
  • How we have tested accessibility

The accessibility of the taike.fi online service has been assessed by an external expert organisation (2020). Accessibility has been assessed in accordance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 (link opens in new window).

These accessibility guidelines cover a wide range of recommendations to help improve the accessibility of online content. Adherence to these guidelines will make the content accessible to a wide range of people with disabilities or limitations, taking into account blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss, mobility impairments, speech impairments, photosensitivity, and combinations thereof. It also includes some improvements for people with learning and comprehension problems or other cognitive limitations, but it does not take into account all of the needs of those people.

In addition to a regular external assessment, we work continuously to ensure accessibility and are committed to making further improvements wherever possible.

How accessible is the service?

The service currently largely complies with the accessibility requirements specified by law. We provide support for those users for whom our services are not accessible.

Non-accessible content

Deficiencies identified in accordance with WCAG 2.1:

Criterion 1.1.1: Non-text content

  • The arrow element for page navigation sublevels has no text equivalent (see also Criterion 2.1.1).
  • The select fields associated with the delimitation of the Events section have incomplete labels or references.
  • The alt texts of images are missing or the content does not describe the image content. Most of the images used are essentially visual expressions that support the text.
  • Some of the graphic elements on the carousel of the homepage do not have a text equivalent.
  • The breadcrumb trail on the homepage icon link does not have a text equivalent.

Fix: Text equivalents to be added for the navigation and image elements. The carousel is a third-party implementation whose functionality can be supplemented where possible. If the functionality of the carousel cannot be upgraded, it is recommended to replace the carousel.

Criterion 1.3.1: Info and relationships

  • The headings of the elements used on the pages varies illogically (h1-h5).
  • The “Order Taike Releases” button is implemented with a table and an h2 element that deviates from the logical order.

Fix: Order/styles of the headings and buttons to be corrected, for example, by using simple links.

Criterion 1.3.2 Meaningful sequence

  • The linking, heading, metadata and order of listings (e.g. News) may confuse the user.

Fix: Linking and presentation of the data to be made more logically. Converting listings to semantic listing is also recommended.

Criterion 1.4.5 Images of text

  • The “Art Support 2018” image link on the “Grants and Subsidies” page has no text equivalent.

Fix: Text equivalent to be added to the link/image.

Criterion 2.1.1 Keyboard

  • The arrow element for page navigation sublevels is a background span element (see also Criterion 1.1.1).

Fix: Upgraded the functionality of the third-party plugin where possible.

Criterion 2.4.1 Bypass blocks

  • The site uses an ARIA landmark role for the main content and the nav role for the main navigation. Elsewhere, the blocks on the site are incomplete.

Fix: ARIA landmarks to be supplemented with HTML5 elements for at least the header (banner) area, footer area and page navigation (nav).

Criterion 2.4.5 Multiple ways

  • The site does not currently have a sitemap. Attention should be paid to providing clear navigation from the main levels and page navigation.

Fix: Supplement site with a sitemap.

Criterion 3.2.1 On focus

  • The customer service chat link does not shift focus to the chat panel that opens.

Fix: The focus can be shifted to a new, opening panel by means of a scripting functionality for example. The third-party chat service may limit the possibility of fixing this deficiency.
