Around a thousand nominations received for new Pool of Experts
Approximately 300 members will initially be appointed to the Pool of Experts. Members must have comprehensive knowledge of different sub-genres and professional groups within each field of the arts, as well as the diversity of the arts and culture sector. Regional coverage is also important. In addition, diversity in the age, gender, language and cultural backgrounds of members will be taken into account during the appointment process.
Individuals nominated by communities must fill in a form with their own details by the end of April in order to be eligible for consideration. A link to the form has been sent to all nominees by e-mail. The final number of nominees will be determined after this.
The Finnish Arts and Culture Agency is preparing the composition of the Pool of Experts so that the Council of Arts and Culture, which begins its term in July, can appoint the first Pool of Experts no later than September. Nominees will be contacted during the preparations.
The appointment of the Pool of Experts is connected to the new peer review structure, according to which the current arts councils will be discontinued as of 1 July 2026. The new structure consists of a Council of Arts and Culture, a Pool of Experts and Grant Assessment Panels, which will review grant applications. The principles of peer reviews and the autonomy of art, as well as of regional equality, will be maintained in decision-making. Stakeholders and the arts community are being consulted extensively throughout the restructuring process.
