From initiatives to action: Barents culture project incubator in Rovaniemi

On 21 and 22 May the City of Rovaniemi in Lapland will be the scene of many creative interactions as representatives of the creative sector in the Barents Region will gather to envision cooperation opportunities at a project incubator coordinated by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland and the Ministry of Education and Culture.

The project in question has received special funding from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and is connected to Finland’s chairmanship of the Barents Euro-Arctic Council. The project is designed to help actors in the creative sector in the Barents Region find innovative project opportunities and implement these projects.

The meeting in Rovaniemi will bring together actors in the creative industries and offer opportunities for them to meet potential partners, exchange experiences about cultural activities and working methods, and present their own projects. Funding bodies will also present funding opportunities to those working in the field of the arts and culture.

The project incubator is being held in connection with the Joint Working Group on Culture, bringing together public officials involved in strategic work within the working group and local actors on the practical level. The meeting will also be attended by cultural administration representatives from 11 regions, as well as ministerial representatives from four countries.

The purpose of the meeting is to encourage diverse dialogue that would help provide all participants with resources and fresh ideas concerning cooperation. An active and coordinated project sparring session will be held to develop the project ideas into action plans. The aim is to come up with well planned, competitive and need-based project plans leading to projects that would enrich the arts and cultural life in the Barents Region.
