Lukukeskus, Culture for all -service and Sivuvalo project in cooperation with Villa Kivi and Arts Promotion Centre Finland organized two discussions about the theme of writers that belong to new linguistic minorities in Finland.

The Central Arts Council of the Arts Promotion Centre Finland has appointed ten national arts councils and one subcommittee for a two-year term (2013-2014). According to new legislation in Finland, the Central Arts Council makes decisions regarding the number of national arts councils, their names and their roles. It also appoints the chairpersons and other members of the arts councils. If required, the Central Arts Council may also appoint subcommittees.

The aim of ARSPRO Artists Meet Producers Event is to offer a possibility for creative professional contacts between artists, art educators and cultural producers. The program of the event consists of short presentations of program proposals offered by artists and art educators for cultural centers and events.

The World Stage Design exhibition presents original costumes, puppet characters, drawings, paintings and photographs, as well as lighting, video and audio solutions for the performing arts. The event attracts over hundred participants from 30 countries. This year’s exhibition is taking place from 5 to 15 September at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff.

The recently appointed Central Arts Council, the main policymaking body under the Arts Promotion Centre Finland, convened for the first time on Friday 15 February. Chairperson Tiina Rosenberg presided over the meeting, at which the nine-member council appointed musician Jaakko Kuusisto Deputy Chairperson.

Kone Foundation organizes together with the Arts Promotion Centre, a project workshop on multilingualism and art. Registration for the workshop on 20th February ends on 13th February. The call for projects within the Creative and Cultural Innovation Expertise ESF+ theme ended on 15 May 2023. Many new projects within the creative sectors participated in the first call for applications. Altogether, 6 million euros has been allocated for the selected projects.

The Ministry of Education and Culture has appointed Henri Terho Director of the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) for June and July. Terho is currently Head of Arts Support at Taike. Kaisa Rönkkö will take over as Director on 1 August 2023.

Grants are the most importance source of income for nearly one in ten Finnish artists. The role and importance of the State in awarding grants is on the decline, whereas private foundations and funds are becoming more important. The amount of State support has not increased in step with the growing size of the artist community.

How can we promote accessibility and equality in artist residencies? What can local art councils, artists’ associations, municipalities and foundations do to promote equality in their operations? How can accessibility and equality of artist residencies be developed to enable disabled artist fully participate in the artist residency programmes?

The Central Arts Council of the Arts Promotion Centre Finland has appointed 74 art experts for the seven national arts councils. In addition, 27 members have been appointed for the 14 subcommittees responsible for preparing peer reviews within each field of the arts, while 112 members have been appointed for the 13 regional arts councils.

The Arts Promotion Centre Finland requests candidates for national and regional arts councils to be nominated by 29 August. The Central Arts Council shall appoint the members for the 2015-16 term in the autumn.
