Eloon! tour: Lapland’s creative networks in the innovation work of companies

The Eloon! tour organised by Creative Net and Suomen Yrittäjät – the Federation of Finnish Enterprises arrives in Rovaniemi on 8 October. The theme of the event is “Lapland’s creative networks in the innovation work of companies”. On the tour, professionals from the business and creative sectors get the chance to collaborate and come up with creative solutions to the challenges of regional vitality.

Government budget proposal cuts Taike's appropriations

The Finnish Government has submitted its proposal for the 2025 Budget to Parliament. Appropriations for discretionary government grants awarded by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) will be cut by approximately EUR 1.9 million. In addition, the previously budgeted EUR 3 million for the performing arts related to the reform of government transfers is no longer included in the State Budget. In total, Taike’s appropriations will be approximately EUR 4.9 million less than in 2024.

Funding for Taike grants and subsidies to be reduced by 5 percent in 2024 – Taike will continue supporting the renewal of all fields of the arts despite the cuts

The amount of state appropriations allocated for Taike grants and subsidies in 2024 has been cut by 5 percent compared to 2023. Nevertheless, the renewal of all fields of the arts will continue to be supported. Decisions for this autumn’s calls for applications will be made in stages by the end of March 2024.

New members appointed to Board for Grants and Subsidies to Writers and Translators

The Ministry of Education and Culture has appointed members to the Board for Grants and Subsidies to Writers and Translators for the 2024–2026 term. The new Chairperson is museum director Terhi Pietiläinen, who previously served as a member of the board. The new Deputy Chairperson is writer Joni Pyysalo.

Regional grants and artist grants can be applied for from the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) in March-April. The grant period for regional grants has changed: the period during which they can be used will start in July 2025.

Taike active on Advisory Board for the Creative Economy and in growth strategy planning

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Education and Culture appointed an Advisory Board for the Creative Economy on 3 December 2024 with the aim of promoting the growth and internationalisation of Finland’s creative industries. The Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) is represented on the Advisory Board by Director Kaisa Rönkkö (Member), Head of Arts Support Henri Terho (Personal Deputy Member) and Internationalisation Expert Maria Pirkkalainen-Barber (Member of Secretariat).

Calls for applications for ESF+ funding to strengthen skills in the arts, culture and creative sectors open until 31 March 2025

ESF+ funding within the Creative and Cultural Innovation Expertise theme is available for projects that strengthen skills and employment in the arts and cultural sector or the creative sector and the creative economy. The next application round for such projects will be from 13 January to 31 March 2025. The new application round offers the possibility to apply for smaller funding also for one-off experiments. The funding will be awarded by the ELY Centre for Häme. Creative Net supports and spars those seeking funding.

New Booster peer group model supports wellbeing of those working in the arts, culture and events sectors

Booster is a new peer group model to support mental wellbeing that has been developed as part of the Mental Health Toolkit project. It is intended to promote the work ability of self-employed people, freelancers, grant recipients and sole proprietors in the arts, culture and events sectors.
