Taike’s commitment to promoting non-discrimination

We at the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) are committed to developing a non-discriminatory arts and culture sector and to eradicating deep-rooted forms of structural racism. Pirjo Honkasalo nominated Arts Academician

By proposal of the Central Arts Council, the President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö has awarded film director and photographer Pirjo Honkasalo the title of academician. Honkasalo will receive the title at an award ceremony to be held at a later date.

Taike announces new call for applications beginning 1 May for COVID-19 grants for professionals in the creative industries affected by the coronavirus

The Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) is providing emergency funding to professionals in the fields of the arts and culture whose livelihoods have been weakened due to the coronavirus pandemic. The total amount allocated for these COVID-19 grants is 8.7 million euros, and the amount of each grant is 3000 euros. The application period begins on 1 May and ends on 15 May 2020 at 4:00pm.

Some artists grants accidentally paid twice in December

An error has occurred in the payment of December’s artist grants. Some grant recipients may have received payment twice, either in full or in part. Any double payments will be cancelled from the accounts to which they were paid, so no action is required by grant recipients to return the extra amount at this stage.

Open Call: Ääreen – Documentary in Animation

Application period 5.10.–18.11.2020

Ääreen is an art project that combines documentary with immersive animation. It will be conducted at Oodi Central Library in Helsinki. The purpose of the project is to support and encourage artists interested in documentary animation, and to create new media presentation practices in the library context.

Animation artist and illustrator Ami Lindholm wants her art to cheer people up and give them hope. Her observations of everyday life start with her own life, but in the process of drawing, the experiences become universal. The animated media work allows viewers to touch and to experience empathy.

Artists believe in the future – optimism created by a strong belief in their own work, artistry and ability to influence their own future as artists

According to the latest Arts and Culture Barometer, artists have an optimistic view of the future, but concerns about their livelihoods and ability to cope are undermining their wellbeing. The findings of the barometer will be presented at a discussion forum at KokoTeatteri in Helsinki on 7 April. The forum is open to the public.

Central Arts Council appeals to Prime Minister Sanna Marin: do not cut funding for culture

The Central Arts Council of the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) calls on Prime Minister Sanna Marin to save the culture budget. A parliamentary agreement has been reached on sectors funded by revenues from the state-owned gambling monopoly Veikkaus, such as culture, from 2024 onwards. The size of the culture budget for 2023 will be negotiated in a framework meeting of the Government.
