Ethnomusicologist Esa Vienamo (MA) has been appointed regional artist for outsider art. The role of the regional artist for outsider art is to promote the artistic work opportunities of outsider artists, reinforce the structures for these activities, and engage marginalised artists.

The Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) has appointed Jaakko Kemppainen MA (New Media and Game Design, Aalto University), MSc (Digital Culture, University of Jyväskylä) regional artist for games as art. As regional artist for games as art, Kemppainen is responsible for promoting the status of games as art, as well as for stimulating interest and promoting opportunities in this field.

The Central Arts Council of the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) has appointed 74 art experts for the seven national arts councils for the 2019-20 term. In addition, 107 members have been appointed for the 13 regional arts councils.

According to preliminary information from the latest Arts and Culture Barometer, the impacts of the corona pandemic on the arts and culture sector have been significant and even devastating. As many as 76 percent of artists responded that the corona crisis had impacted their work. The majority of these impacts have been negative.

Each year the Arts Promotion Centre Finland awards about 45 million euros to approximately 3 500 artists and communities.

Project grants are intended for professional artists and working groups formed by them for individual projects. Private traders may also apply.

The Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) has awarded its #movingart theme year prize to the Artists at Risk residence programme. The amount awarded is 5000 euros. Taike Director Minna Sirnö presented the award on Friday 8 December in Helsinki.

This autumn’s calls for applications will begin at the end of September. Communities throughout Finland should apply for subsidies in the autumn, as there will not be a separate call for applications in the spring. For the first time, Taike will also be awarding subsidies for festivals and cultural journals.
