Information about artist grants

National arts councils award half-year artist grants, as well as one-year, three-year and five-year artist grants, to support the work of professional artists. Calls for applications for artist grants are announced in spring, and the grant period begins the following year.

Decision-making

Grant decisions are based on peer reviews made by experts. A regular turnover of members combined with the diversity and regional representation of members of Taike’s expert bodies help ensure the pluralism of the decision-making process.

Restructuring of arts council structure

The Finnish Arts and Culture Agency’s peer review structure is being restructured, and the current arts councils be discontinued as of 1 July 2026. The new structure will have a Council of Arts and Culture utilising a pool of experts and rotating grant assessment panels to review applications. The principles of peer reviews and the autonomy of art will be maintained in decision-making. Stakeholders and the entire arts sector are being consulted extensively in the restructuring work.
