Finnish music culture and the musical arts have long traditions. Finland's music scene is appreciated both domestically and internationally. Art music covers a wide range of musical genres, enabling a diverse musical culture in Finland.

The Ministry of Education and Culture distributes state subsidies to orchestras on the basis of person years. The network of orchestras covers the entire country and reaches almost a million listeners. The Ministry of Education and Culture also funds the Finnish National Opera.

The National Council for Music awards discretional subsidies to freelance artists and groups. The National Council for Music also provides direct support for artists in the form of artist grants, for example.
