Nomination of candidates for arts councils underway

The Arts Promotion Centre Finland requests candidates for national and regional arts councils to be nominated by 29 August. The Central Arts Council shall appoint the members for the 2015-16 term in the autumn.

Nominees have been requested from approximately 220 art experts and organisations for the seven national arts councils and from approximately 650 art experts and organisations for the 13 regional arts councils. The Central Arts Council earlier decided the number, names and number of members of the national arts councils, as well as the number of members of the regional arts councils for the 2015-16 term.

The arts councils are responsible for making decisions regarding the awarding of grants and awards to artists, artist groups and organisations on the basis of peer reviews. Each year the national arts councils process over 9000 applications and the regional arts councils 4400 applications addressed to the Arts Promotion Centre Finland.

Members of the arts councils are experts in the fields of the arts and culture. The Central Arts Council is responsible for ensuring that the arts councils represent a diverse range of artistic and other expertise. Linguistic and regional aspects are also taken into consideration. Each member may be appointed to the arts council for no more than two consecutive terms, after which he or she may be reappointed after no less than two years.
