Taike announces new call for applications beginning 1 May for COVID-19 grants for professionals in the creative industries affected by the coronavirus

The Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) is providing emergency funding to professionals in the fields of the arts and culture whose livelihoods have been weakened due to the coronavirus pandemic. The total amount allocated for these COVID-19 grants is 8.7 million euros, and the amount of each grant is 3000 euros. The application period begins on 1 May and ends on 15 May 2020 at 4:00pm.

The first call for applications for Taike’s COVID-19 grants was aimed primarily at freelance artists whose work situation has been concretely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The new call for applications targets not only artists but also other professionals in the fields of the arts and culture. The intended recipients include, for example, musicians, actors, dancers, visual artists, writers, illustrators, designers, set designers, sound and light technicians, editors, makeup artists and stage comedians whose working opportunities have decreased and whose livelihoods have been weakened due to the coronavirus pandemic between 13 March and 31 May 2020.

Taike is awarding these grants to private persons. Communities can apply for support from the Ministry of Education and Culture.

COVID-19 grants for private individuals  

The application period for COVID-19 grants begins on 1 May and ends on 15 May 2020 at 4:00pm. All applicants shall receive written notification of the decision by 12 June 2020. 

The amount of each COVID-19 grant is 3000 euros, and the grant must be used before 31 December 2020. .

Funding aims to safeguard the working conditions of artists

The aim of the Ministry of Education and Culture is to maintain the working conditions of professionals in the creative industries and fields of the arts and culture despite the changes in work situations due to the coronavirus pandemic.

COVID-19 grants are intended for work situations that have changed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The support may be awarded for completing productions that had already been started before the crisis, for planning and implementing new projects, and for maintaining the professional activities of applicants.
In the second supplementary state budget, the culture and arts sector received an increase of more than 40 million euros to support artistic activities and compensate for loss of revenues and other income.
