State Prize for Media Art to Shinji Kanki

Experimental composer Shinji Kanki (born 1953) has had a long, versatile and multidisciplinary career in auditory art. He has lived and worked in Finland since 1985, and his diverse activities have ranged from experimental music and other auditory art to experimental radio broadcasting.

State Prize for Literature to Hannu Väisänen and Jyrki Lappi-Seppälä

Hannu Väisänen, a native of Finland who is now living in France, was awarded for his commendable and versatile work in literature; Jyrki Lappi-Seppälä for his fresh translation of “Don Quijote de la Mancha”.

Finnish Arts and Culture Agency decides on appropriations among forms of support

The Finnish Arts and Culture Agency has decided on the distribution of government grant appropriations among forms of support. Total funding has been cut by 200,000 euros, and efforts have been made to balance the effects across the different forms of support. The agency also decided to award state prizes and regional art prizes in 2026, which will affect the amount of government grants allocated. More support will be allocated to artists than in 2025.

Taike to submit information about applications and decisions to Tutkiavustuksia.fi

The Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) will submit summarised information about decisions for all calls for applications announced since 1 October to the joint Tutkiavustuksia.fi service. For subsidies to communities, both positive and negative subsidy decisions will be published on the website. For grants to artists, only positive grant decisions will be published.

Government grants for the arts and culture awarded by Taike face 1.3 million euro cut in 2026

According to the Government’s 2026 budget proposal, government grants awarded by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) would be cut by EUR 1.3 million. Taike’s appropriations for discretionary government grants would decrease for the third year in a row. The cut is targeted at discretionary non-statutory government grants, which would be cut by approximately 5 percent.

Calls for applications to open for government grants for communities

Calls for applications for discretionary government grants awarded by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) and intended for communities open on Tuesday 1 October 2024. Some calls for applications have been transferred to the new Applyforgrants.fi service. In addition, changes have been made to the calls for applications due to budget cuts to discretionary government grants.

Call for applications for project grants for the arts opens 5 November 2025 under the Finnish Arts and Culture Agency name on the Applyforgrants.fi Service

Project grants for the arts can be applied for from 5 November to 3 December 2025. These grants are intended for individual projects by arts professionals during 2026-2027. The call for applications can be found on the Applyforgrants.fi service under the new Finnish Arts and Culture Agency name.

ESF+ projects selected within Creative and Cultural Innovation Expertise theme after second application round

Funding within the Creative and Cultural Innovation Expertise ESF+ theme has been awarded to 14 projects after the second application round. The selected projects promote themes in areas such as music, events, the performing arts, design, museums, sustainable development and cultural wellbeing.

Appropriations for government grants promoting the arts and culture to decrease in 2026

In December, Parliament decided on appropriations for 2026. Appropriations for artist grants will remain unchanged, but cuts will be made to non-statutory appropriations for the arts and culture.

Finnish Arts and Culture Agency distributes 650,000 euros to cultural magazines and online publications

The Finnish Arts and Culture Agency (Kuvi) has awarded general grants for cultural magazines and online publications for 2026. A total of 650,000 euros was distributed. Grants were awarded to 21 publications and four actors promoting the availability and visibility of magazines. A total of 44 applications were received.

Finnish Arts and Culture Agency launches appointment process for Pool of Experts on 16 March

The Finnish Arts and Culture Agency is launching the first round of nominations for its new Pool of Experts on 16 March 2026. The Pool of Experts will replace the current national and regional arts councils. Members of the Pool of Experts will serve a term of three years, beginning in September 2026.
