Information about project grants for the arts

Project grants for the arts are intended for arts professional and working groups formed by them for individual projects. Private traders may also apply. The application period for project grants for the arts is in autumn.

Grants for communities

Taike grants are intended for professional activities. Grants are awarded either as general grants for ongoing operations or as project grants for specific projects. Taike grants can be applied for using the Applyforgrants.fi service under the new Finnish Arts and Culture Agency name.

Organisation

Taike has approximately 80 employees. Approximately half of these are administrative staff (civil servants) and half are art experts and artist experts on fixed-term employment contracts. The head office of Taike is in Helsinki, and it also has regional offices.

Artists spend around 60 percent of their total working time making art – other work performed mainly because income from artistic work is not enough to make ends meet

The latest Arts and Culture Barometer looked into the different types of work performed by artists. The results of the survey revealed that artists work and create art in many areas of society. However, approximately half of the work performed by artists does not involve making art. The findings of the Arts and Culture Barometer 2023 will be presented at a discussion forum at Semifinal on 17 April 2024.

Restructuring of arts councils

Taike’s arts councils are being restructured, and the current arts councils be discontinued as of 1 July 2026. The new structure will have a Council of Arts and Culture utilising a pool of experts and rotating grant assessment panels to assess applications. The principles of peer reviews and the autonomy of art will be maintained in decision-making. Stakeholders and the entire arts sector are being consulted extensively in the restructuring work.

Taike awards operational subsidies to 193 applicants

The Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) has awarded 13.8 million euros in operational subsidies for specific artforms to art communities in 2025. Altogether 193 art communities throughout Finland have been awarded an operational subsidy. Due to the budget situation and Taike’s strategic priorities, there have been more changes affecting recipients and amounts in the decisions than in previous years.

Taike and Kavi prepare for merger

The National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI) and the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) are preparing to merge to form a new agency as of the beginning of 2026. The change is part of the Education and Culture Administration 2030 reform project.

Alexander Stubb, President of the Republic of Finland, has awarded the title of Art Academic to master folk singer and musician Hilja Grönfors and architect, professor emeritus Vilhelm Helander.
