Government grants for the arts and culture awarded by Taike face 1.3 million euro cut in 2026

According to the Government’s 2026 budget proposal, government grants awarded by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) would be cut by EUR 1.3 million. Taike’s appropriations for discretionary government grants would decrease for the third year in a row. The cut is targeted at discretionary non-statutory government grants, which would be cut by approximately 5 percent.

Calls for applications to open for government grants for communities

Calls for applications for discretionary government grants awarded by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) and intended for communities open on Tuesday 1 October 2024. Some calls for applications have been transferred to the new Applyforgrants.fi service. In addition, changes have been made to the calls for applications due to budget cuts to discretionary government grants.

Call for applications for project grants for the arts opens 5 November 2025 under the Finnish Arts and Culture Agency name on the Applyforgrants.fi Service

Project grants for the arts can be applied for from 5 November to 3 December 2025. These grants are intended for individual projects by arts professionals during 2026-2027. The call for applications can be found on the Applyforgrants.fi service under the new Finnish Arts and Culture Agency name.

ESF+ projects selected within Creative and Cultural Innovation Expertise theme after second application round

Funding within the Creative and Cultural Innovation Expertise ESF+ theme has been awarded to 14 projects after the second application round. The selected projects promote themes in areas such as music, events, the performing arts, design, museums, sustainable development and cultural wellbeing.

Library grants for writers and translators are intended for writers of fiction, writers of non-fiction and translators of literature who are currently living or have permanently lived in Finland. The application period for library grants is in January.

Appropriations for government grants promoting the arts and culture to decrease in 2026

In December, Parliament decided on appropriations for 2026. Appropriations for artist grants will remain unchanged, but cuts will be made to non-statutory appropriations for the arts and culture.

Finnish Arts and Culture Agency begins operations

The Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) and the National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI) have merged at the start of the year to form the new Finnish Arts and Culture Agency. The new agency carries out tasks related to the promotion of the arts and culture, media education and a safe media environment, as well as archiving and promoting knowledge of audiovisual culture. The merger will not result in any changes to services, although some contact information may change.
